Lausanne is a city on Lake Geneva in the French-speaking canton of Vaud in Switzerland. The city is home to the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee as well as the Olympic Museum and the Olympic Park on the shores of the lake.
A bit higher up is the hilly old town with medieval alleys that house many, small stores. At the top the Gothic cathedral with an ornate facade from the 12th century. Lausanne is with 139’111 inhabitants after Zurich, Geneva and Basel, the fourth largest city in Switzerland.
Lausanne is also the seat of the Federal Supreme Court and the Swiss Film Archive. In the latter there is the collection of about 80,000 film titles, respectively 600,000 film reels, millions of photographs, countless posters, books and much more.
Lausanne also stands for a breathtaking natural environment with Lac Léman, the Alps and the Jura Mountains as a backdrop and offers UNESCO World Heritage Sites with the terraced vineyards of Lavaux.
